Human Centered Design

Project 3
Human centered Design
For this assignment, we were told to create something that can be used everyday for the next year. I decided to make a jewelry stand out of wood. The idea was using wood that you can find in your backyard or at a park making it accessible for anyone. Due to the Corona Virus and the lack of materials we have access to right now, I thought it was important to use materials that anyone can easily find. There wasn't any wood that I wanted to use in my backyard so I went to a nature park close to my house to pick up some wood. This was a nice activity because I got to go on a nice walk while doing my assignment. After I found some wood that I wanted to use, I went back home and washed it and peeled off the rough surfaces. I did not have any sand paper so I did not sand my wood down. After the wood dried, I began nailing the pieces together with help from my dad of course. The process was pretty easy after the basic form of the stand was created. I got some push pins and colored them black. Then I pushed the pins on each side of the wood and tied threads going through each pin. After that, all I had to do was add my jewelry and my project was pretty much done. I think the jewelry stand fit the requirements of this assignment pretty well because I personally change my jewelry everyday. I did not have to go out and buy any materials for this project and truly used my resources around me. I think the hardest part for me was looking for the perfect wood to use. I originally wanted to use only driftwood because I thought it had a very unique look to it. However, all the beaches were closed and when I did finesse my way into a secluded beach I could not find good driftwood. I would say this project did take me three weeks to make from thinking of ideas, sketching them, realizing what would work and what wouldn't, picking up materials, and actually making it.
My sketches weren't that good but I had a very clear picture in my head of the very bottom sketch.
Went to a nature park in Fullerton.
